"Nickels" came to Trinity after rowing for 3 years at the McCallie School in Chattanooga, TN, never losing a cup race and extending the team's win streak against arch-rival the Baylor School to 18 years. He spent his first two years at Trinity primarily in the 2nd Varsity 8, notably finishing 4th at the ECAC NIRC his sophomore year. He's also an experienced sculler and won the Open 1x at the 2018 USRowing Southeast Regional Championships. Injury kept him off the water as a junior, though he did set (unofficial) team records for doctors seen (single season), hours in the training room (single season), and the Bike Erg (All-time, 4k and 10k).
He is a Computer Science major with a Models & Data minor. In the classroom, he has excelled in his studies, receiving faculty honors and being named to the NESCAC and NIRC All-Academic Teams multiple times. He has performed research in Electrical Engineering and Environmental Science and interned with Georgia Ports (Savannah, GA) and Epic (Verona, WI).
He would like to work in Software Development and get into coaching after his time at Trinity. Outside of rowing and the classroom, He enjoys playing his acoustic guitar, cycling, and smoking large amounts of meat.
